The Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will honor two prominent alumni with annual awards at the 2008 Whitman Alumni Dinner on Wednesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center.
Alumnus of the Year
Stuart Frankel '61 B.S., founder of Stuart Frankel & Co., will receive the Jonathan J. Holtz Alumnus of the Year award. Frankel began his successful career while still a student at Whitman -- as an enterprising sophomore, he started a pick-up and delivery laundry and dry cleaning service for students.
His financial experience and initiative continued to grow after graduation. He worked in the bond department at Hirsch & Co. and later at Loeb Rhoades & Co. In 1973, Frankel and his wife, Sharyn, founded Stuart Frankel & Co., the first Wall Street firm to deal directly with institutional clients from the stock exchange floor. Frankel's sons, Jeffrey and Andrew, now operate the company, and his daughter, Hilary, owns part of the business. Frankel is an SU trustee and a member of the Whitman School Corporate Advisory Board. He provides for students through the Adrian Frankel and Henry Dickman Endowed Scholarship Fund, named for his father and his wife's father, and the Stuart Frankel & Co. NYSE Scholars Program, which sends three students each year to Wall Street for three days to meet with financial professionals.
Dean's Citation for Distinguished Service
Scott B. Ehrenpreis '74 B.S., '76 M.B.A., principal at J.H. Cohn LLP, will receive the Dean's Citation for Distinguished Service. Ehrenpreis became a principal at J.H. Cohn when he merged his firm into J.H. Cohn in 2005. With more than 25 years of experience, Ehrenpreis specializes in serving high-net-worth individuals and closely held businesses. His areas of concentration include strategic tax planning and client representation before taxing authorities for examinations and tax delinquencies.
His service to the community has been considerable. Ehrenpreis serves on the Whitman School's Corporate Advisory Council and is a member of the Lubin School of Accounting's Advisory Board. He is a member of the Friends of Rockville 9/11 Memorial Foundation and a trustee at Jiminy Peak in Hancock, Mass.
"Stuart Frankel and Scott Ehrenpreis are both great friends of the Whitman School," says Melvin T. Stith, dean of the Whitman School. "They contribute vast amounts of their time and expertise to our students and to making Whitman a better, richer place. We are greatly pleased to count these two fine and accomplished men among our alumni and to honor and celebrate them with these awards."
