Author David Hajdu will visit Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Friday, April 18, at 3 p.m. in the Barney Light Center for Inquiry, Innovation and Imagination (I-3 Center), Room 432 of Newhouse 3. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.
Hajdu will discuss his book "The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic Book Scare and How it Changed America" (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2008), which chronicles the role of comic books as the first symbols of modern American pop culture and the firestorm they created. Entertainment Weekly called the book "a staggeringly well-reported account of the men and women who created the comic book, and the backlash of the 1950s that nearly destroyed it."
Hajdu, a former Newhouse faculty member, is also author of "Positively 4th Street" (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2001) and "Lush Life: A Biography of Billy Strayhorn" (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1996).
