John Rowe, M.D., M.P.H., will deliver the fourth annual Syracuse Seminar on Aging lecture on Thursday, April 17, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Global Collaboratory, Room 060 of Eggers Hall. His topic is "Who Will Take Care of Tomorrow's Elderly? Recommendations from the Institute of Medicine."
Rowe leads the MacArthur Foundation's Initiative on an Aging Society and chairs the Institute of Medicine's Committee on the Future Health Care Workforce for Older Americans, which plans to issue its final report on April 14.
Rowe is a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. From 2000 until his retirement in late 2006, Rowe served as chairman and CEO of Aetna Inc., one of the nation's leading health care and related benefits organizations. Previously, Rowe served as president of the Mount Sinai Hospital and the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, both before and after its merger with NNY Health. He is co-author (with Robert Kahn) of the bestseller "Successful Aging" (Pantheon, 1998).
