It began as a record number of 100 student teams just a few months ago. Now the 2008 Panasci Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, is down to the final 16 teams, which will compete in the "Sweet Sixteen" round of the competition on April 18-19.

The 16 student teams in the finals are: Bike B Go; BioRhythms; Bolivia Fair Trade; Boogienomics; Brand-Yourself.com; Dream Water; Edu X Perience; Help Connect; Impression, LLC; Let Us Fish; Light Innovations; Lur-nid; Secure Order; Shoes for a Cause; Some Where Out There; and Water Enhancement Techniques Inc.

Students from all across the SU campus were invited to participate in the Panasci Business Plan Competition. The teams compete for a combined prize total of $40,000. When the finalists are determined, two undergraduate teams and one graduate team will be sent to compete at national business plan competitions.

The winning teams will be chosen based on the creativity and innovation of the idea, the reality of the proposed business, the comprehensiveness of the written business plan, and the quality of the team's oral presentation. To ensure success and learning, student teams are assisted by faculty from the Whitman School, along with the opportunity to participate in workshops to teach students how to properly create, prepare and present a business plan.

The final rounds of the competition will be judged by accomplished entrepreneurs and venture capital experts.
