Start-Up NY -- a partnership among the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, the Onondaga County Office of Economic Development and Department of Social Services, and the Burton Blatt Institute Centers of Innovation on Disability at Syracuse University -- is hosting a guest lecture by Brian Rubin, president and owner of Maryland Hydroponics, on Tuesday, March 18, at noon. The lecture, titled "Pursuit of Passion: Starting a Venture From a Different Perspective," will take place at the South Side Innovation Center (SSIC), 2610 S. Salina St., Syracuse. The cost is $15 for the general public, $5 for SSIC tenants and free for Start-Up NY clients.
Rubin is recipient of the 2006 Small Business Owner With a Disability Award from the Small Business Administration in Maryland. His company, Maryland Hydroponics, is one of only a few businesses that carry the products and technology needed for gardening with water and nutrients instead of soil. He will discuss issues unique to small business owners with disabilities.
