Syracuse University's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will compete March 6-9 at the University of Arizona in the "Duel in the Desert," a personal financial case study competition. SU's team will compete against Boston College; California State University, Bakersfield; College of Charleston; College of the Ozarks; Dakota State University; Drury University; Georgia Southwestern State University; Messiah College; Metropolitan State; College of Denver; Regent University; Saint Francis University; University of North Carolina at Charlotte; University of North Dakota; Valdosta State University; and Youngstown State University.

All institutions competing in "Duel in the Desert" won their regional divisions earlier this year. In the national challenge, they will be given 36 hours to analyze a case study and present their findings to a panel of judges for a chance to win $19,000 in prize money. The event will close with a presentation on how to start a "Credit Wise" team at each of the participating schools.

SU students participating in the Duel are seniors April Hace and Lauren Echavarria, junior Dan Kinney and sophomore Michelle Eifu.

"We are very excited about attending the National Duel in the Desert," says Hace. "After taking home first place in the Boston 'Duel on the Heights' regional competition, our team is well prepared to tackle another financial case study challenge. We are looking forward to working hard, learning a lot, meeting other SIFE Duel teams, and hopefully doing well in the competition."

The competition is sponsored by Take Charge America Inc., a debt management company located in Phoenix.
