A group of students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) have collaborated with the Everson Museum of Art to organize the current exhibition "On the Move: Images of Travel from Everson Museum of Art and Syracuse University Collections" on view through May 25 at the Everson, 401 Harrison St.
"On the Move" features images of travel from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution to the present day. The works were created in various media, from prints and paintings to pop-up books and video. More than 80 works were gathered from the Everson Museum of Art, the Syracuse University Art Galleries' collections, Light Work and the Special Collections Research Center of the Syracuse University Library.
The students who participated include those in the graduate program in museum studies and the undergraduate program in history of art, as well as other master of fine arts degree candidates. The students worked during the Fall 2007 semester under the guidance of Edward Aiken, associate professor of museum studies, and Judith Meighan, assistant professor of history of art, to develop and implement the exhibition from start to finish. The process included selecting the objects, researching and writing labels, and designing and installing the show.
The Everson is open to the public Tuesday-Friday and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5 per person. For more information, visit http://www.everson.org.
