Syracuse University Library will host the grand opening of its new cafe and launch of the new learning commons on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 3-4:30 p.m. on the first floor of E.S. Bird Library. Since its opening in mid-January, the cafe has quickly become a popular spot on campus for beverages, sandwiches and snacks, and is the only campus cafe that serves the locally renowned Freedom of Espresso brand of coffee.

The grand opening event will feature the unveiling of the cafe's new name. The recent contest run by the library to solicit ideas for the new name received an astonishing 825 entries. The winner will be presented with a new MacBook laptop by University Librarian and Dean of Libraries Suzanne Thorin.

Those involved in the planning, construction and staffing of the cafe will be recognized. Attendees will also hear about plans for the creation of a new library learning commons and can tour the newly reconfigured first floor. Complimentary cake and coffee will be served.
