Syracuse University's Office of Government and Community Relations (GCR) has redesigned its website to offer more public information with greater ease of use. It can be found
at http://gcr.syr.edu.
Among the website's features are handy audience-specific navigation, with subject areas for "Students," "Faculty/Staff," "Community Members" and "Government Officials," focused on the specific information needs of these four key audiences.
The areas devoted to students and government officials are new additions that were not available on the previous GCR website. The student section introduces SU students to civics on all levels (local, state and federal) as well as information about the responsibilities of citizenship related to residency in the neighborhoods adjacent to the University. The government officials section offers elected officials general information about the University and the SU community -- one of the largest constituent groups in Central New York.
The website also offers "Quick Links" to improved content about legislative processes on the state and federal levels; a wealth of community resources; and helpful tips and contact information about how to volunteer in the community, where to park on campus and how to get involved in government, among other topics.
"The different constituent groups with whom we work, from elected officials to University neighbors, now have a better way of locating information that is
important to them," says Beth Rougeux, executive director of government and community relations at SU. "And since a good website is always evolving and never `done,' we welcome people's comments and ideas for other features they would find useful."
The website was designed and constructed by Beth Mahoney, Web specialist for the Division of Human Services and Government Relations, with GCR staff liaison Diana Napolitano.
