Cara Grassia and Ryan M. Levis are the Senior Class Marshals for Syracuse University's 147th Commencement. They will lead the procession of graduates into the Commencement ceremony, which will be held May 13 at 10 a.m. in the Carrier Dome.
Grassia is the daughter of Anthony and Kathleen Grassia of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. She is a coordinated dietetics major in the College for Human Development.
Levis, the son of Richard P. and Caren Levis of Elwood City, Pa., is a broadcast journalism major in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Senior Class Marshals are selected by a committee, based on the criteria of academic achievement, involvement in student organizations, campus and community service, and a personal statement. Eight students were chosen as finalists from a pool of more than 60 applicants. Each school and college has also named its own marshals.
This year's committee was chaired by Lena Rose Orlando, assistant director of special programs in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Other members were Mary Jo Custer, director of student affairs and associate to the vice president for student affairs; Vincent DiSano, assistant dean in the College for Human Development; junior Jessica Rozali, undergraduate representative; and John Dierna, graduate representative.
