Lionheart, one of America's leading ensembles in vocal chamber music, will perform in concert at Syracuse University on Sunday, Jan. 27, in a joint presentation of SU's Malmgren Concert Series, SU's Pulse performing arts series and the Society for New Music.
A string quartet from the Society for New Music -- Cristina Buciu, Travis Newton, David LeDoux and Amy Diefes -- will join the ensemble in performing Phil Kline's "John the Revalator" and Marc Mellits' "String Quartet No. 2" at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the Irving Garage (those attending should tell the parking attendant they are attending the concert).
The New York Times has hailed Lionheart's "smoothly blended and impeccably balanced sound." The ensemble -- Jeffrey Johnson, Lawrence Lipnik, John Olund, Richard Porterfield, Kurt-Owen Richards and Michael Ryan-Wenger -- is best known for its interpretation of medieval and Renaissance a cappella music, with Gregorian Chant as the keystone of its repertoire. The ensemble also collaborates with instrumental ensembles, dance companies and contemporary composers.
