Because of the unprecedented popularity of its influenza vaccination clinics, Syracuse University will offer an additional pair of free flu-shot clinics for faculty and staff only. The Office of Human Resources' Worklife Wellness Committee is sponsoring the purchase of doses for faculty and staff.
The clinics will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, and Wednesday, Dec. 12, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. both days, in Room 228B of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. The clinics are first-come, first-served, with no appointments. A valid SU employee I.D. must be shown to receive a flu shot, and a limited number of doses will be allocated for each clinic to ensure that sufficient vaccine is available. Flu shots will be administered by Health Services staff.
The flu shots for faculty and staff are only available at the scheduled clinics. Students who wish to receive a free flu shot from Health Services should call 443-9005 for availability.
The 2007 flu season marks the first time that SU has offered flu shots to students, faculty and staff free of charge. Before 2007, recipients paid a fee, and the record high number of shots administered to students, faculty and staff in a single year was fewer than 1,400.
This year, nearly 600 doses have been given to faculty and staff, and more than 1,200 students have been vaccinated so far. Some 500 additional doses have been purchased for the two additional faculty and staff clinics, and doses for students will remain available at Health Services while supplies last.
