jlholmes@syr.eduPaul Timmers, head of sector of the European Commission Directorate-General XIII, Electronic Commerce, will present a discussion about the European Commission's e-business technology and policy development at 11:30 a.m. April 24 in the Kilian Room, Room 500 of the Hall of Languages. The lecture is sponsored by the Center for Digital Commerce in Syracuse University's School of Information Studies.
Timmers' presentation will include a broad overview of the European e-commerce/e-business market, current thinking on the legal and self-regulatory issues, and a discussion of innovative technologies, business models and e-markets.
Timmers is head of sector in the European Commission's Information Technologies Directorate. He is charged with electronic commerce in the information technology research and development program ESPRIT and is secretary of the G8 pilot "A Global Marketplace for SMEs," an international cooperation in electronic commerce. He is author of "Electronic Commerce: Strategies and Models for Business-to-Business Trading" (John Wiley & Sons, 1999).
He regularly speaks at international conferences on e-commerce public policy and has been an advisor to various national governments and large companies. Timmers has published more than 60 papers and books about e-commerce, technology and innovation management, and physics. Before joining the European Commission, Timmers held various management positions in product marketing and software development in the IT industry. He also co-founded a software company.
Timmers is on the faculty of the UBI Business School, Brussels, and Facultes Universitaires, Namur. He has been a visiting professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business, and a visiting lecturer at numerous universities.
