Jim Longo, a physician who has been practicing cardiology at Crouse Hospital for 20 years, and Raja Velu, professor of managerial statistics in the Whitman School of Management, will speak on "Managing Your Heart" Tuesday, Dec. 4, from noon-1 p.m. in the Milton Room on the fourth floor of the Whitman School building.
About one in three individuals has some form of cardiovascular disease. In 2006, the disease caused the deaths of 410,000 males and 461,000 females. The death rate is much higher in some ethnic groups. While various risk factors are identified and treated, ultimately individuals have to watch out for themselves. In this informal talk, both the patient's point of view and the doctor's point of view will be presented briefly. Then the floor will be open for questions.
Longo is cited as one of the most prominent doctors in Central New York and is also the PA program director at Le Moyne College. He is a 1977 Le Moyne graduate and a 1981 graduate of SUNY Upstate Medical University.
Velu will narrate his personal experience with heart disease.
