University Union Cinemas and Allied Advertising have announced a sneak preview of "The Kite Runner," based on Khaled Hosseini's debut novel, on Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in Gifford Auditorium. Free tickets are required for admission and will be available at the Schine Box Office starting Nov. 6.

The event is open to Syracuse University students, faculty, staff and the public. Parking is free after 5 p.m. in any ungated lot on campus.

The film is an epic tale of fathers and sons, of friendship and betrayal, which spans from the final days of Afghanistan's monarchy to the atrocities of the Taliban reign. This unforgettable story of redemption is based on the best-selling book "The Kite Runner" (Riverhead Trade, 2004) by Khaled Hosseini. The book was the featured selection for both the 2006 Syracuse University Shared Reading Program for new students and the 2007 CNY Reads program.

"The Kite Runner" will be released in theaters Dec. 14.
