The Sue Anne Genet Lecture Series in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) will present Susan White, president, and Barbara Warren, vice president and creative director, of White + Warren on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. in Grant Auditorium in the College of Law. The lecture is free and open to the public. Discounted paid parking is available in Irving Garage. Visitors should mention that they are attending the Genet Lecture to obtain the discounted rate.
"Two working women with children decided to change jobs, pool their fashion expertise and start a business that uses cashmere, eco-friendly bamboo and organic cotton," says Karen Bakke, associate professor of textile design in VPA's School of Art and Design. "In doing so, they did a 'Ginger Rogers.' Ginger had to do everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards and in heels."
White + Warren offers a line of high-quality knitwear for everyday living. White and Warren formed the company in 1997, when they decided to create a cashmere collection that combined the finest luxury and style with the best fit. The line was an instant success in boutiques, catalogues and specialty stores and later

White began her career in fashion in 1975 when she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduation, she entered the buyer training program at Macy's and spent the next 10 years in the corporate retail world,
followed by 12 years directing sales at wholesale knitwear companies. As president of White + Warren, she is especially focused on the growth and development of both the company's business strategies and people.
As vice president and creative director of White + Warren, Warren brings 20 years of experience in wholesale apparel sales and product development. She oversees all aspects of visual presentation and branding, and works closely with the design team to create five new collections annually. She draws inspiration from her extensive travels abroad, as well as art and interior design.
The Sue Anne Genet Lecture Series is offered by VPA and was founded by Leon M. Genet '53, a longtime SU supporter and benefactor, who died in 2005. The series was named in memory of his wife, an artist and sculptor. From 1982-2004, the lecture series brought nationally prominent speakers from fashion, design and retailing to campus. VPA resumed the series in 2006 with the assistance of Genet's daughters.
