Nominations sought for Syracuse University Martin Luther King Jr. Unsung Heroes Awards

The Syracuse University Martin Luther King Jr. 2008 Celebration committee is seeking nominations for the Unsung Heroes Awards, which will be presented during the evening celebration in the Carrier Dome on Jan. 20, 2008. The theme for this year's celebration is "King's Challenge: Can We Live Peacefully in a Violent World?" The awards are presented annually to people who, in the spirit of King's "beloved community," have made a positive difference in the lives of others but who are not widely recognized for their efforts.


Nominations may be made in any of the following categories:


  • Youth/teen from the Greater Syracuse community
  • Adult from the Greater Syracuse community
  • Student at SU or the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry
  • Faculty or staff from SU or SUNY-ESF


    The deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, Nov. 16. To obtain a nomination packet call SU's Hendricks Chapel at 443-2901 or e-mail gyerdon@syr.edu.
