Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will host one of the cable industry's most well respected leaders, SU alumnus Robert Miron '59, chairman and CEO of Advance/Newhouse Communications. Miron will be interviewed on Monday, Oct. 29, by Newhouse professor Bud Carey on running and operating a cable telecommunications firm in the 21st century and the major forces shaping the business. The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. in Room A2 in Newhouse I. It is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.
Miron, vice chair of the SU Board of Trustees and a Newhouse School Advisory Board member, is visiting campus as part of the Cable Mavericks lecture series presented by The Cable Center, a leading resource for information, education and expertise on cable telecommunications. The series brings an elite group of cable executives to U.S. college campuses where they inspire and inform students through energetic dialogue about the industry's prospects, challenges, impact and entrepreneurial spirit.
On Oct. 30, Miron will be joined by Nomi Bergman, executive vice president, strategy and development, at Advance/Newhouse Communications. The pair will discuss career preparation and options in the cable industry with students enrolled in a television, radio and film course on principles and practices at the Newhouse School. Bergman will also host a private luncheon to discuss working in the cable industry with about a dozen student guests who were nominated by faculty members.
Miron has been CEO of Advance/Newhouse Communications since 1974. He oversees the company's cable television interests, which manages more than two million subscribers in Bright House Networks cable television systems in and around Tampa
Bay, Fla.; Central Florida; Indianapolis; Birmingham, Ala.; Bakersfield, Calif.; and Detroit, with several smaller systems in Alabama and the Florida panhandle. Since graduating from SU, he has worked for Newhouse in various capacities within the radio, television and cable fields.
