Thirty Syracuse University undergraduate students will lead 9th-graders of the new Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central on a day of service Friday, Oct. 12. These SU students -- including members of the Maxwell Citizenship Learning Community and the American Red Cross Club at SU -- and the entire 9th-grade class of 90 Tech Central students will be cleaning up a local park near the new Tech Central school on East Adams Street and working on projects for the Red Cross and the Salvation Army during the day.
William Coplin, professor of public policy in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and The College of Arts and Sciences, will be speaking to the students about the importance of community service, getting involved and doing good in the Syracuse area. This event is a part of the ongoing collaboration between the freshman Maxwell Citizenship Learning Community and the new Tech Central high school, which started this year.
The Co-Curricular Fee Program of the Division of Student Affairs and the Maxwell School's Public Affairs Program are the event's sponsors. SU Food Services is donating lunch for all the students and faculty.
