A memorial service for Karen Hiiemae, professor of biomedical and chemical engineering in Syracuse University's L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science (LCS), will be held on Monday, Oct. 8, at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.
Friends and colleagues are invited to attend; parking will be available in the Irving Garage. Individuals should inform the attendant that they are attending the Hiiemae memorial service.
A reception will follow in the lobby of the Heroy Geology Laboratory.
Hiiemae, a resident of Fayetteville, died Sept. 10 after a brief battle with cancer. She was 66.
A member of the SU community since 1986, Hiiemae was an internationally recognized researcher on tongue and jaw movements in feeding. In addition to her professorship in LCS, Hiiemae was the advisor for SU's chapter of Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) and had previously served as the University's vice president for research and graduate studies.
