Michael T. Cahill, director of Syracuse University's Center for Career Services, has been appointed to the Global Initiatives Committee of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Established in 1956, NACE connects more than 5,200 college career services professionals at nearly 2,000 colleges and universities nationwide with more than 3,000 human resources and staffing professionals focused on college relations and recruiting. NACE is dedicated to forecasting trends in the job market; tracking legal issues in employment, the job search and hiring practices; and providing college and employer professionals with benchmarks for their work.
Cahill and the other members of the Global Initiatives Committee, chosen for their leadership at colleges and universities around the country, have a full slate of objectives to focus on in the coming year. They include exploring the feasibility of an international visitation program and/or travel learning tour to other countries for NACE college and employer professionals; developing a plan to financially assist NACE members in presenting papers at conferences abroad; exploring internships abroad; and exploring the feasibility of a virtual international internship career fair and a global recruitment conference.
"I am looking forward to serving on this committee and advancing college relations and recruiting around the globe," says Cahill. "We are looking at a number of ways to open up the world and its many employment opportunities to college graduates."

Cahill, a resident of Syracuse, has been a member of the Center for Career Services team for 20 years, starting as a counselor in 1987. He was named associate director in 1997, interim director in 2001 and director in 2002.
As director, Cahill oversees the operations of the Center for Career Services, which provides students and alumni with assistance in career planning and the job search process; connections to employment and continuing education opportunities; the SU Internship Program; and information about career options and job market trends. The center, a principal unit of the Division of Student Affairs, provides direct career counseling and support to students and alumni University-wide, maintains the University's technology resources for career seekers; and coordinates the Career Services Network, a collaboration involving school and college career offices.
