Libba's Place coffeehouse at Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel will hold an Acoustic Song Circle on Friday, Sept. 28, from 7-10 p.m. in the Hendricks Chapel Noble Room. The event is free and open to the public; parking is available in the University's visitor pay lots.
The circle will be composed of a round-robin group and solo performances of acoustic folk, newgrass and contemporary singer/songwriter material. All are welcome to participate (acoustic instruments only). The event will be hosted by Larry Hoyt, host of the "Common Threads" folk music program heard on WAER FM 88.3 on Sundays from noon?3 p.m.
Libba's Place is coordinated by the Office of Community Engagement and Intergrative Learning at Hendricks Chapel. The coffeehouse is named in honor of Libba Cotton -- singer, storyteller, composer, guitarist, banjo player and quilter -- who is known for songs such as "Freight Train" and "Oh, Babe, It Ain't No Lie." Cotton worked for years as a housekeeper before launching her music career in her late 60s. She spent the last nine of her 90-plus years in Syracuse, where she died in 1987.
