The 2007 "Intelligent Conversation Series," sponsored by University College of Syracuse University and Le Moyne College, will provide an opportunity to explore the environment and society in relation to religion, politics and energy policies. A series of discussions led by prominent faculty from SU and Le Moyne will discuss the environmental movement, global climate change and public policies affecting the environment.

The public is invited to explore these issues Oct. 9 and 23 and Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. on the Le Moyne College campus. Parking is available in lot C off Springfield Road (visit http://www.lemoyne.edu/resources/campusinfo.htm). All of the sessions are free.

Topics of discussion and participants are:

• Oct. 9 -- "Politics, Public Opinion, and the Environment Movement." Featured speakers are Steven R. Brechin, professor of sociology, Center for Environmental Policy and Administration in the Maxwell School, and Walter Sharp, adjunct professor and climate project ambassador for former Vice President Al Gore's "The Climate Project: Global Warming" at Le Moyne College.
  

  
  

• Oct. 23 -- "Religion and the Environment." Featured speakers are David Smith, associate professor of natural systems science in the Department of Biology Sciences at Le Moyne College, and Philip Arnold, associate professor of history of religions/American religions in SU's Department of Religion.
  

  
  

• Nov. 6 -- "U.S. Climate and Energy Policies: Complementary or Conflicting?" Featured speakers are Peter Wilcoxen, associate professor of economics and public administration and director of the Center for Environmental Policy and Administration in the Maxwell School, and Lawrence Tanner, associate professor of natural systems science and director of the Center for the Study of Environmental Change at Le Moyne College.
