The Syracuse University Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees invites all students, faculty and staff members to nominate candidates to receive honorary degrees at the 2008 and 2009 Commencement ceremonies. Deadline for all nominations is Sept. 21.

Those who wish to nominate a candidate should complete a nomination form, available online
at
http://universitysenate.syr.edu/honorary/NominationForm.pdf (PDF), and attach requested materials that outline the nominee's qualifications for an honorary degree. A copy of the nominee's vita or resume, or a list of the candidate's professional history and contributions, must be included. If appropriate, additional information may be included, such as letters of support or writings, that attest to the eminence of the candidate. Each nomination should be limited to eight pages.

The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees will review all nominations and recommend final candidates to the full Senate, which will make the final decision. If feasible for the candidate and appropriate for the program area, honorary degree recipients will be invited to present colloquia on Friday of Commencement Weekend.

Nominations should be submitted to Eileen Lantier, chair of the Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees and associate dean in the College of Human Services and Health Professions, by mail at 119 Euclid Ave. More information is available online
at http://universitysenate.syr.edu/honorary/honorary.html or by contacting Lantier at 443-9824 or elantier@syr.edu.
