Work of poet Carl Dennis featured in next installment of the Raymond Carver Reading Series

Poet Carl Dennis will read from his work at 5:45 p.m. April 18 in Gifford Auditorium, located in SU's Huntington Beard Crouse Hall. The presentation is part of the Raymond Carver Reading Series; Dennis is the series' Richard Elman Memorial Fund Visiting Writer. 



Dennis is author of eight books of poetry, including "Practical Gods" (Penguin, 2001), "Ranking the Wishes" (Penguin, 1997) and "Meetings With Time" (Viking Penguin, 1992). "Poetry as Persuasion, an Essay for Writers," a book of critcism, is forthcoming from the University of Georgia Press.



His poems have appeared in Atlantic Monthly, American Poetry Review, Ironwood and Kenyon Review, as well as many other journals and magazines. His poems have been selected several times for anthologies such as "Orpheus and Company" (University Press of New England, 1999); the 1997, 1993 and 1992 editions of "The Best American Poetry" (Scribners); and the 1995 and 1988 editions of "Pushcart Anthology" (Pushcart Press) and "The Bread Loaf Anthology of Poetry" (University Press of New England, 1985). He is a professor of English at the University at Buffalo.



The Raymond Carver Reading Series is supported by The College of Arts and Sciences, SU Library Associates, Stephen King, the Dr. Scholls Foundation and the New York State Council on the Arts.
