LaMonica Falkquay, of Syracuse University's Class of 2007, will represent her region in the Miss New York competition July 12-14 on Long Island. If chosen as Miss New York, Falkquay will represent the state at the Miss America competition in January 2008.
As a student at SU, Falkquay was dually enrolled in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, studying advertising, and The College of Arts and Sciences, studying Spanish. She is now pursuing a career in advertising at BBDO NY, an advertising firm in New York City.
"Being a part of the Miss America Organization is a dream come true," says Falkquay. "It has opened doors for me to reach out to my community and encourage others to pursue their passion. Obtaining the title of Miss New York will allow me to do this on the next level."
Since being crowned Miss Finger Lakes this past February, Falkquay has continued active outreach to her community. She coordinated a youth empowerment conference, spoke to local teens about the importance of pursuing their future, and raised money for the Children's Miracle Network.
