The Syracuse University South Side Initiative and the Southside Community Coalition will present the second annual South Side Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, July 14, and Sunday, July 15.
The festival will be held from 1-8 p.m. each day outdoors at the corner of South Salina and Colvin streets. Sponsors of the event are the Central New York Community Foundation, Syracuse University, National Grid and the Southside Community Coalition.
The festival is free and open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs; coolers will not be permitted.
Two local music legends will perform as the festival's daily closing acts -- Ronnie Leigh on Saturday and Roosevelt Dean on Sunday. Throughout the two days, artists from the Syracuse community will perform a wide range of music -- including jazz, hip-hop, R&B, rap and blues. There will also be dancing, food, face painting, theatrical performances and other activities.
"We are looking forward to the second annual South Side Music and Arts Festival and expect that it will be even greater than last year's event," says Khalid Bey, spokesman for the Southside Community Coalition and project manager for the festival. "The South Side, and the City of Syracuse as a whole, has so much to offer. It's time that we celebrate and appreciate ourselves as a community."
