Twenty-nine seniors will be honored at the annual Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) Baccalaureate in the Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center on Friday, May 11. The private event will also include the Reinventing Scholarship Awards ceremony.
The CSTEP Baccalaureate represents an opportunity for graduating CSTEP scholars and their families -- along with faculty, staff and friends -- to convene in spiritual acknowledgment of the academic year and the 2007 graduating class. The Rev. William C. Gipson, university chaplain and special advisor to the president at the University of Pennsylvania, will provide the address. Gipson is renowned for his work with students; he works with more than 25 student religious groups.
Gipson is responsible for numerous projects out of the Office of the President that address issues of inter-racial concerns, and he was recently appointed by the provost to the faculty master position at Penn's W.E.B. Du Bois College House.
Following the baccalaureate address, CSTEP will host "The Reinventing Scholarship Awards Ceremony," recognizing outstanding CSTEP scholars. Eli Mekhlin, Napolean Knight, Jade Reid, Alan Fong and Krystle Niles will be acknowledged in recognition of their outstanding scholastic achievements (cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher) and demonstrated commitment to the mission and vision of CSTEP, which includes commitment to the standards of holistic development, pursuit of post-baccalaureate education, global citizenship and lifelong achievement.
CSTEP is an academic enrichment program designed to foster an undergraduate or graduate student's success in preparing for professional licensure and careers in medicine, law, business, education, science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health. The program -- now in its 20th year -- is supported by the New York State Education Department and participating higher education institutions.
