As the nation comes together in support of those affected by the Virginia Tech tragedy, Virginia Tech family members and alumni across the country are participating in a grassroots effort to mark this Friday, April 20, as an "Orange and Maroon Effect" day, to honor those killed and to show support for the Virginia Tech community.

"Orange and Maroon Effect" is a Virginia Tech tradition of wearing the school colors to out-of-town events; it was launched several years ago at Virginia Tech's intercollegiate athletic events and has grown into a unifying force for the entire Hokie community.

As we at Syracuse University struggle to comprehend this tragedy, and as we rally together to show our support for, and solidarity with, those most closely affected, I encourage members of the SU community to participate in tomorrow's "Orange and Maroon Effect." By wearing orange and maroon clothing, you can show your visible commitment to supporting the students, faculty and staff at Virginia Tech in their time of mourning.
