Patricia Arredondo, a nationally known leader in the professions of counseling and psychology and an advocate for multicultural organizational development, will present the keynote address for the School of Education Counseling Department's Centennial event on Saturday, April 21, at 4 p.m. in the Goldstein Alumni and Faculty Center. Arredondo's address is part of an afternoon of Centennial-related activities by the Counseling Department that also includes the induction of new Sigma Upsilon members; Sigma Upsilon is the honor society for counseling students. Arredondo's address is open to the public.
Throughout her distinguished career, Arredondo has been devoted to bringing the benefits of counseling to all segments of society. After several years on the faculty of Boston University, she became president of Empowerment Workshops Inc., a Boston-based organizational consulting firm primarily focused on multicultural organizational development. Subsequently, Arredondo joined the faculty of counseling and counseling psychology at Arizona State University, where she now serves as deputy vice president and University Dean of Student Affairs for Undergraduate University Student Initiatives.
Arredondo is recognized as a national and international leader in the areas of multicultural competency, Latina/os issues in counseling and multicultural organizational development. Her scholarship includes five books and more than 60 book chapters and journal articles. Among the many recognitions she has received are the ACA Kitty Cole Human Rights Award, the Pinnacle Award for Business Achievement bestowed on her by the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, and an ACES Distinguished Service Award. In addition, she has been named a "Living Legend" by the American Counseling Association and received an honorary doctorate from the University of San Diego.
