Erlease Wagner, interim director of athletic compliance for Syracuse University, will assume responsibility as the director of athletic compliance, effective July 1, according to SU Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Louis G. Marcoccia.

Two years later, Wagner was promoted to the position of assistant director, assuming more responsibility with the rules education program. Since July 2006, she has served as the interim director of athletic compliance.

Prior to joining SU, Wagner was an eligibility assistant at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and a compliance intern at the University of Maryland-College Park.

Wagner holds a bachelor's degree in Slavic literature and languages from the University of Virginia. She attended graduate school at Florida State University and St. Petersburg State University in Russia, and earned a law degree at the University of Richmond.

"Erlease is extremely intelligent, astute and ethical," Marcoccia says. "She has provided the University outstanding service, and her experience and knowledge

make her highly qualified to lead SU's Office of Athletic Compliance in accordance with the University's values. Accordingly, I am totally confident that she will be an excellent director of athletic compliance."

"I look forward to working with Dr. Marcoccia in the future, and I appreciate the confidence he has in my ability to effectively run the Office of Athletic Compliance," Wagner says. "It has been a pleasure working with him over the past year, and I have learned a great deal while a member of his Career Development Group.

"The appointment to director of athletic compliance is a wonderful opportunity for me. I have enjoyed working with and learning from former Director of Athletic Compliance Jamie Mullin the past three years. I look forward to administering the Office of Athletic Compliance and providing quality service to the University and surrounding community."
