On Monday, April 9, Syracuse University's chapter of Phi Beta Delta, the honor society for international students and scholars, inducted SU Vice Chancellor and Provost Eric Spina as an honorary member. Spina also gave the keynote address at the free, public event, which was held in Hendricks Chapel.
Phi Beta Delta is a society of domestic and international students and educators who have committed themselves to international educational exchange. In the induction ceremony, 73 members of the SU community were honored with medallions honoring their commitments to global teaching and learning.
Spina, a member of the SU community since 1988, has supported international education throughout his tenure as a faculty member and as dean of the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. As SU's chief academic officer, he leads a wide range of international student, faculty and information exchanges. He has played a key role in the creation of SU's and the State of New York's initiatives in the area of indoor air and environmental quality, including the Syracuse Center of Excellence in Environmental and Energy Systems, which has drawn the interest of top scholars from around the world.
