The Ethos Percussion Group will perform at Syracuse University on Sunday, April 15, the next offering in Hendricks Chapel's Malmgren Concert Series.
The concert will begin at 4 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in the Quad 1, Quad 3, Quad 4 and Waverly lots.
Christopher Marks, a faculty member at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and former University organist and faculty member at SU, will accompany the group on organ. The concert program will include a world premiere by Nicholas Scherzinger.
The concert will be preceded by a percussion workshop on Saturday, April 14, from 3-5 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. The event is free and open to the public, and free parking is available in the Quad 1, Quad 3, Quad 4 and Waverly lots.
For more than 15 years, the Ethos Percussion Group has inspired audiences throughout the country with its exceptional music making and collective devotion to the diverse world of percussion music. The group's innovative programming integrates global instruments and playing styles into the conventions of Western chamber music to create a visually and aurally compelling experience.
The group's critically acclaimed performances regularly feature numerous commissions and world premieres and traditional rhythms from India, West Africa and the Middle East. Its recordings include "Sol Tunnels" (2003); "The Persistence of Past Chemistries" (1999); and "Ethos Percussion Group" (1996).
The concert is part of the Esther Drake and John Vincent Malmgren Concert Series at Hendricks Chapel. The series was made possible by a generous gift to Hendricks Chapel from alumna Esther Malmgren '42 in 1991. The free Sunday afternoon concerts, held throughout the year, feature a vide variety of music.
