On Thursday, April 5, R&B star Ne-Yo -- co-writer of the most-played song in radio history -- will give a public performance during the "Rhapsody in Pink/Fashionably Aware" student fashion show at Syracuse University. The event is designed to promote multiculturalism in the fashion industry and to celebrate diversity in the SU and broader Central New York communities.
The fashion show and concert will be held at 8 p.m. in the Goldstein Auditorium of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. Tickets are available at the Schine Box Office and are $8 for students with SU I.D. and $15 for the general public. Free, public parking will be available in the Waverly and Marion lots.
"Rhapsody in Pink/Fashionably Aware" is an annual fashion show sponsored by recognized student organizations Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Iota Upsilon Chapter and Fashion's Conscience. It showcases a wide variety of fashions by SU students, local designers and minority designers, making audience members aware of the diversity that exists in the fashion world. The event's purpose aligns with a national priority of Alpha Kappa Alpha: to help people of color break barriers in the entertainment industry through many forms of the arts and to show appreciation for people of all races and ethnicities who support these efforts.
The show's headline act, Ne-Yo, collaborated in 2004 with Mario to write "Let Me Love You," which garnered nearly 190 million listeners in one week, the most in radio chart history. Ne-Yo's 2006 debut solo album, "In My Own Words," featured the singles "So Sick" and "Sexy Love." That release will be followed later this month by Ne-Yo's sophomore album, "Know Me."
