The Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts will present a free concert by the Cassatt String Quartet on Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Peter Graham Scholarly Commons on the first floor of E.S. Bird Library. Paid parking is available in Booth Garage.
The program will feature Beethoven's Op. 18 #5 in A major and Dvorak's Op. 105 in A flat major.
Based in New York City, the Cassatt is the Setnor School's quartet-in-residence. The quartet plays the masterpieces of chamber music, while commissioning, concertizing and recording new works from eminent composers. The quartet performs internationally, with concerts at Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall in New York City; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.; the Theatre des Champs-Elysees in Paris; and Maeda Hall in Tokyo.
Garnering top prizes at the Fischoff, Coleman and Banff international competitions, the Cassatt also won Chamber Music America/ASCAP Awards for Adventurous Programming. Named three times by The New Yorker magazine for its "Best of ..." CD selections, the Cassatt records for the Koch International, New World, Point, CRI, Tzadik and Albany labels.
