The Syracuse University Africa Initiative in the Department of African American Studies in The College of Arts and Sciences will host the Spring 2007 Pan African Studies Symposium Series, "Ghana's Independence and the Global Pan African Movement," a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Ghanaian independence, on Thursday, March 29, from 10:30 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Community Folk Art Center, 805 E. Genesee St.

SU Associate Provost Kal Alston will open the daylong symposium, which brings together scholars from across the country to reflect on the importance of Ghana's independence. This symposium, co-sponsored by the African Students Union, will feature the following participants:
