The Syracuse Symposium Committee, which plans the annual intellectual and artistic festival hosted each fall by The College of Arts and Sciences, will convene later this semester to consider themes for fall 2008. Planning for the 2007 symposium, which will explore the theme of "Justice," is in the final stages and details will be announced in the coming months.
Members of the University community are invited to share their ideas for possible themes for the 2008 symposium. As the annual festival celebrates interdisciplinary thinking, imagining and creating, themes must cross interdisciplinary boundaries and engage as many areas of campus intellectual and cultural life as possible. Themes should also be broad and deep in scope, and have the potential to engage large numbers of students and faculty in serious interaction.
Kandice Salomone, associate dean for administration in The College of Arts and Sciences and chair of the Syracuse Symposium Committee, encourages members of the University community to be creative with their suggestions. "Symposium is more than a lecture series," she says. "It includes performances, exhibitions, workshops and other forms of investigation and expression."
Previous symposium themes include "Poetry," "Beauty," "Journeys," "Humor," "Borders" and "Imagination." The symposium website
