The Syracuse premiere of "God Grew Tired of Us," a National Geographic documentary featuring Syracuse University student John Dau, will be held on Friday, March 23, at the Westcott Cinema, 524 Westcott St.
Show times on Friday are 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. Dau will take part in a question-and-answer session following the 6:30 p.m. performance. The film will also be shown on Saturday, March 24, at 1, 3, 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.; Sunday, March 25, at 1, 3 and 7:30 p.m.; and Monday, March 26, through Thursday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $8.50 for adults; $7 for seniors, children and students with a valid student I.D. Matinee screenings and the Monday show are $7 for all.
The film, which won both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, follows the journeys of Dau and two other "Lost Boys" from the Sudan -- among the 25,000 young men who fled civil war, famine and attacks from soldiers before arriving in United Nations' refugee camps -- as they settle into life in the United States.
Dau, who came to Syracuse in 2001, is working towards a bachelor's degree in public policy in The College of Arts and Sciences. He currently leads a nonprofit organization working to foster improvements in health care and education in his homeland. For his continuing efforts to better the lives of the Sudanese people, Dau received a 2007 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unsung Heroes Award from Syracuse University in January.
