The trial team for the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) in Syracuse University's College of Law won the northeast regional Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition last weekend in Hartford, Conn. The team -- composed of SU law students Tahanie Aboushi, Shannon Ashford, Jose Perez and Edward Robson -- maintained top ranking throughout the weekend.
SU's BLSA trial team defeated Columbia University, Pace University and Boston University to win the northeast regional. Trial teams from Harvard University, Fordham University, St. John's University, the University of Connecticut and Loyola University were also present but failed to place in the competition.
Coached by SU law professor Paula Johnson and Scott Wells, an Onondaga County assistant district attorney, the SU BLSA trial team received high marks and positive critiques from evaluators.
The BLSA team's victory secures an automatic bid to compete in the national tournament March 21-25 in Atlanta, part of the National Black Law Students Association's 39th Annual National Convention.
