Syracuse Chiefs GM Simone to lecture on sports marketing Feb. 28 at SU's Whitman School

The Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will host a lecture by John Simone, general manager of the Syracuse Chiefs, Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 5 p.m. His presentation, "Sports Marketing," will take place in Room 402 of the Whitman School building and is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.


Simone has been with the Syracuse Chiefs organization for 28 years in various positions, including public relations director, director of sales, director of operations and assistant general manager. He was appointed general manager in 1996. Simone was a member of the design team and helped to secure the $28 million from New York State, Onondaga County, the Toronto Blue Jays and Centerplate (the stadium concessionaire) for the construction of Alliance Bank Stadium.


He was named International League Executive of the Year in 1998 and was recognized by the Greater Syracuse Leadership Council with the 40 under 40 Award in 1998. He has been involved with the ALS Society, Special Olympics, ARC of Central New York and many other charitable organizations.


In 1987, the Chiefs received the annual National Association Presidents Award from minor league baseball for the team's success in all phases of operations.
