The Office of Multicultural Affairs at Syracuse University will celebrate Black History Month with the second annual Cora A. Thomas Gospel Extravaganza, Sunday, Feb. 25, at 4 p.m. at the Alibrandi Catholic Center, 110 Walnut Place. The featured talent for the show includes evangelist Beverly Crawford and the group Junior Fountain and God's Generation.
A singer, actress and licensed and ordained evangelist, Crawford has appeared in Bishop T.D. Jakes' play "Woman Thou Art Loosed" and numerous other productions. She is a Grammy-nominated artist, has worked with BET personality Bobby Jones, and has recorded on the Warner Bros. and EMI Gospel/Dexterity Sounds labels. Junior Fountain and God's Generation began in 1996 as a gospel ensemble made up of five teens from various Bridgeport, Conn., churches. Since then, it has grown to 25 members, including dancers, musicians and singers. The Binghamton University choir and Syracuse University's Black Celestial Choral Ensemble will also perform.
The event was named for Thomas for her extensive commitment to gospel music. An on-air radio personality for 15 years, Thomas has reached Central New York through her work with WPHR Power 106.9 FM and WAER FM 88.3.
