Starting Feb. 20, 18 accounting students in the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University will offer free income tax preparation to all SU students, faculty and staff. This service will cover non-complicated, individual tax returns that can generally be filed on IRS short forms (1040 EZ or 1040A). The Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Free Tax Assistance group will be in the Flaum Grand Hall, located in the Whitman Building, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m-4 p.m. through April 12.
The service will be offered on a first come, first served basis and is directed toward tax payers who may need a little extra help figuring out their taxes. "Tax season is a difficult time for everyone," says Mitch Franklin, assistant professor of accounting in the Whitman School. "This program allows students to put into action all of the information they are learning in their classes in order to help out their colleagues."
Tax forms will be provided to those who do not yet have them. Contact Franklin at
