The weather outside may be frightful, but the fun will be on full blast this month as the Winter Carnival returns to the SU campus Feb. 22-26. The long weekend of festivities kicks off Thursday, Feb. 22, with a free chili cook-off on the patio of Hinds Beard Crouse Hall from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and culminates with the SU men's basketball game against Georgetown on Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The events are sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, The Office of Alumni Relations, SU Food Services and the Department of Athletics.

Carnival revelers can enjoy free screenings of "Happy Feet" in Gifford Auditorium and in Room 201 of the Goldstein Student Center, presented by UU Cinemas; free open skate sessions with half price skate rentals at Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion; and the Human Dogsled Races, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. in Walnut Park.

Cultural and performance events will offer a variety of rich experiences, including Pan-African Night, sponsored by the Caribbean Students Association, African Student Union and the Student African American Society. The event will take place Thursday, Feb. 22, at 8 p.m. in The Underground at the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. On Saturday, Feb. 24, Cheon Ji In, SU's Korean Traditional Drumming Club, will perform at 7 p.m. in Schine Center's Goldstein Auditorium. Tickets -- $5 for general public, $3 with SU I.D. -- are available at the Schine Box Office.

"The tradition of Winter Carnival lives on and continues to grow every year," says Ellen King, director of student events. "The students have done a fantastic job working with each other and the various offices and organizations in putting together an exciting schedule of events. And it helps that we have snow!"
