Jonathan Greene '83, G'85, co-executive producer and writer for the hit NBC-TV show "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," will visit the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University Feb. 6. Greene will meet with students who are interested in writing for television and film, lead a screening of a recent "SVU" episode and answer questions about the life of a TV series writer on Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. in Room 464, Newhouse II. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.
Greene has been with "Law & Order: SVU" for eight seasons. Prior to writing for dramatic television, he worked in broadcast journalism, starting as a part-time radio news reporter at WSYR-AM (during which time he earned a New York State Associated Press award for spot news reporting) while attending the Newhouse School.
After earning a master's degree from Newhouse in 1985, Greene moved into television news, working as a writer, producer, executive producer and news director in markets spanning Upstate New York (including Syracuse), New England, Florida, North Carolina and New York City. In 1998, he became a writer/producer/director on the Court TV documentary series "Crime Stories" (now known as "The Investigators"), earning a DuPont-Columbia Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism for his work on "The Interrogation of Michael Crowe."
For his work on "Law & Order: SVU," Greene received the Media Access Award from the California Governor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and the Golden Psi Award from the American Psychological Association, and has been a finalist for the Humanitas Award and the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America.
