Faculty members from the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts were part of a team that worked on the recording "Corigliano: Violin Sonata Etude Fantasy" (Black Box Records), which was nominated for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards yesterday.
"Corigliano: Violin Sonata Etude Fantasy" was recorded in SU's Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College, and is up for Best Chamber Music Performance. The category includes five nominees selected from 160 entries. The performance features Le Moyne College faculty member Andrew Russo on piano, Corey Cerovsek on violin and Setnor School faculty member Steven Heyman on piano. The CD was selected by BBC Magazine as the North American Record of the Month for Aug. 2006 and received a favorable review in the London Times in April. John Laverty, director of University Bands and Setnor School faculty member, co-produced the work. James Abbott, audio engineer and Setnor School faculty member, engineered, edited and mastered the recording. Setnor School students and staff assisted in coordinating the production.
"This is a wonderful accolade for the arts scene in Central New York," says Laverty. "It was truly a collaborative effort."
Grammy nominees were announced by The Recording Academy at a press conference Dec. 7 in Hollywood. The 49th Annual Grammy Awards will be held Feb. 11 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
