Syracuse University's School of Information Studies will host an international Web conference on Internet governance beginning at 8:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, Nov. 2. Participants will connect via the Internet from the United Nations Internet Governance Forum in Athens, Greece; the Caribbean Internet Forum in Grenada; the Maxwell Global Collaboratory in Eggers Hall on SU's campus; and other locales across the globe. Participants are expected to share updates on the status of Internet governance from their various perspectives and to suggest new policies.
The Web conference is being coordinated by School of Information Studies professors Derrick Cogburn, Jon Gant, Lee McKnight and Milton Mueller, all of whom, with the exception of Gant, are partners of the Internet Governance Project (IGP). Based at SU, IGP (internetgovernance.org) is a consortium of academics with scholarly and practical expertise in international governance, Internet policy, and information and communication technology. Its goal is to inform public policy backed by research and analysis that is guided by the values of globalism, democratic governance and individual rights.
