As part of its Centennial Celebration, SU's School of Education is co-sponsoring a panel discussion titled "Religious Concerns/LGBT Concerns in Higher Education: Difficult Dialogues." The panel will explore the issues that sometimes arise among people with religious convictions and people committed to the affirmation of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) community in higher education, including classroom situations. The discussion is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. in Room 304 of the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Barbara Applebaum, associate professor of cultural foundations of education in the School of Education, will moderate the panel, which includes the following experts in religious and LBGT issues:

• Rabbi Steven Greenberg, National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership
  
• Cris Mayo, associate professor, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
  
• Rev. Thomas Wolfe, dean, Hendricks Chapel, Syracuse University
  
• Rev. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, Episcopal chaplain, Hendricks Chapel, and rector, Grace Episcopal Church
  
• Adrea Jaehnig, director, SU's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center
  

The panel discussion is co-sponsored by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center; Hillel at Syracuse University/Winnick Hillel Center for Jewish Life; the LGBT Studies Program; the Department of Religion; the Women's Studies Program; the Department of Sociology; the Department of Anthropology; and the Future Professoriate Program of the Graduate School.
