The Visiting Artist and Speakers Program in the College of Visual and Performing Arts' (VPA) School of Art and Design will present a lecture by Israeli-born, New York City-based painter Ophrah Shemesh on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium. Parking is available in Irving Garage.

Shemesh's large oil paintings are eroticized, psychological studies of female faces and figures. Through her paintings, she comments on the sensuality of her models. Her works are painted on neutral, empty backgrounds with models that appear to be looking at the observer.

Shemesh holds a B.F.A. from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, Israel. She attended the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture in New York City. Solo exhibitions of her work have been displayed at the Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco; Baumgartner Gallery, New York; and Galleria S.A.L.E.S., Rome. She is currently director and painting instructor at Art Workshop, Italia, Capri and Venice.
