Trick-or-treaters of all ages are invited to a free evening of Halloween festivities Oct. 31, hosted by the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra (SUSO). The evening of free events begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes a Haunted House in Crouse College and a concert of Halloween music in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium. Parking is available in Irving Garage.
At 5:30 p.m., Crouse College will become a Haunted House run by Setnor School students with multiple levels of excitement for trick-or-treaters. Younger participants will receive treats. A costume contest will be held, with a top prize awarded to the most creative costume. Setnor School faculty organist Kola Owolabi will perform on the school's Holtcamp organ in Setnor Auditorium during the Haunted House.
A concert of Halloween music will follow at 8 p.m., beginning with an organ rendition of J.S. Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D minor." The SUSO, under the direction of Setnor School faculty member James Tapia, will then play traditional Halloween favorites for the audience, including "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Paul Dukas, "Danse Macabre" by Camille Saint-Saens, "Night on Bald Mountain" by Modest Mousorgsky and "The Harry Potter Suite" by John Williams. The costume contest winner will receive a gift on stage, and many surprise guests will also be on hand.
