The Family Law and Social Policy Center at Syracuse University College of Law will host the conference "The Impact of Problem-Solving Courts: Are They an Effective Response to Social Problems Affecting Families and Children?" at the Marx Hotel and Conference Center Friday, Oct. 20, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The keynote speaker is the Hon. Leonard Edwards, a judge-in-residence at the California Administrative Office of the Courts, who has received numerous awards for his innovative approach to courtroom solutions for families.
This multidisciplinary conference brings together nationally recognized experts from law, social work, medicine and the social sciences to explore the purpose, function, effectiveness and fairness of problem-solving courts.
Judge Edwards is a national leader in the development of problem-solving courts to address problems affecting families. As a former California Superior Court judge, he transformed his courtroom to better assist families; his court program now serves as a national model. Edwards is recipient of numerous awards and recognition for his innovative work, including the William H. Rehnquist Award for Judicial Excellence.
